Diagnostic Imaging

Not all health problems are detectable with external examinations. Sometimes we need to take a peek inside to get a better idea of your pet’s condition. Diagnostic imaging using x-rays, ultrasound, and endoscopy allows us to detect and diagnose ailments as quickly and accurately as possible. After diagnosis, our team can formulate a treatment plan to help your pet get back to feeling their best.

Our diagnostic imaging array includes:

Pet X-Rays:

Technology is continuously advancing, and Total Pet Care Hospital prioritizes keeping up with the latest technological advancements. Radiography, or “x-rays” are one of the most important and non-invasive diagnostic tools available to a veterinarian. Our x-ray equipment is state-of-the-art, (updated in 2021), allowing us to detect abnormalities in the body which may not be obvious on examination alone- including organ enlargement, broken bones, cancer, kidney/bladder stones, and foreign objects.

Ultrasound:

Ultrasound is the more precise and modern cousin of the x-ray. It offers a non-invasive, up-close, and real-time glimpse of what is occurring inside the body. With this technology, we can observe the organs in detail and even see fine bodily movements -such as the pumping of the heart, blood flow, and the contraction of muscles in the gastrointestinal tract. Ultrasound often allows us to diagnose disease in our patients before they are even showing symptoms.

Endoscopy:

At Total Pet Care Hospital, we prioritize providing high-quality care while also ensuring patient comfort and health. Endoscopy assists us in achieving these objectives. Endoscopy is a minimally invasive medical procedure that uses a long flexible tube with a light and camera attached to it. This enables us to examine internal organs (primarily the stomach and parts of the gastrointestinal tract) without requiring surgery. Endoscopy is also the only way to diagnose conditions such as stomach ulcers and delayed gastric emptying.

Total Pet Care Hospital offers a comprehensive array of diagnostic services for pets to the communities of Trussville, Birmingham, Pinson, Odenville, and beyond.
