Dr. Dawkins was born in Birmingham and graduated from Shades Valley High School. After graduation from high school, Dr. Dawkins served three years in the United States Marine Corps. Once his military service was completed, he continued his education at Auburn University, receiving a degree as a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1978. Dr. Dawkins owns two veterinary hospitals in Birmingham, and is married to his darling wife, JoAnne, of 52 years. They have one daughter, Mary Anne, and two grandchildren. In his free time, Dr. Dawkins likes fishing and hunting.
